Fighting Conservatorships: Problems and Remedies for
Attorneys
Conservatorships often involve complicated issues of mental capacity, family struggles, personal safety, and individual autonomy. Sometimes, even the proper role of the conservatee’s attorney is in question. This webinar is designed to raise some of the more important issues of conservatorships and address them from the perspective of a conservatorship defense attorney. More importantly, the webinar will cover
potential solutions to the problems associated with these issues. Some of the issues to be discussed include the proper ethical role of a conservatorship defense attorney, dementia powers, long-term placement decisions, and less restrictive alternatives.
Presented by Tony Chicotel, Staff Attorney, CANHR

Reverse Mortgages and Long Term Care Financing Options
While a reverse mortgage may be an appropriate tool in some circumstances, the complexity of these financial devices and the rapid growth in the marketing of these products greatly increases the potential for mistakes and abuse. Understanding the actual costs and potential consequences of reverse mortgages and their impact on public benefits is essential in determining their appropriate use. This one-hour presentation will review the pros and cons of reverse mortgages and long term care insurance and their impact on Medi-Cal eligibility.
