Immigration advocates often are faced with the confusing task of deciphering and interpreting criminal records such as Abstracts, rap sheets, and court documents. This webinar will feature lecture and extensive question and answer as it walks practitioners through a variety of criminal record documents. Note: Participants in this session are recommended to also join The Categorical Analysis, Divisible Statutes, and the Record of Conviction webinar. Instructors: Kathy Brady, ILRC Senior Staff Attorney and Angie Junck, ILRC Staff Attorney, authors of ILRC publications Defending Immigrants in the Ninth Circuit: Impact of Crimes under California and Other State Laws and the California and Arizona Quick Reference Charts and Notes on Immigration Consequences of Crimes. Graciela Martinez, Los Angeles County Deputy Public Defender. She consults with and advises criminal defense attorneys throughout California on issues relating to criminal convictions and the resultant immigration penalties. She regularly conducts trainings for the office (the Public Defender’s Office of LA County) and outside organizations, such as the California Public Defender’s Association, LAFLA, CLINIC, Los Angeles County Bar Association, National Legal Aid and Defenders Association, Riverside County Public Defender’s Office, and San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office.
