Project First Step is a joint collaboration between Central California Legal Services, Marjoree Mason Center, and the Fresno County Women Lawyers. The program provides free legal assistance to victims of domestic violence through limited-scope in-court representation at their court hearing to obtain a permanent restraining order. An attorney does not need to practice family law to participate in the program. The training will provide all the information that is needed for the volunteer to effectively represent the client at his/her court hearing. CCLS will also provide administrative and substantive law assistance as needed by the volunteer attorney.
