Alphabet Soup Part I: An Intro to Benefits for Children in Foster Care
Presenters: Alice Bussiere, Youth Law Center; Angie Schwartz, Public Interest Law Project
This session will provide a basic overview of benefits for children in foster care, including AFDC-FC (foster care payments), CalWORKs, Adoption Assistance, and Kin-GAP. It is designed to help attorneys and advocates with little knowledge of the foster care benefits system understand the basic eligibility criteria for the different benefit programs available to youth in out of home care, identify issues faced by children in out-of-home care and their families (particularly relative care providers), and advise clients on the different sources of financial assistance available to them when they decide to take a child into their home.
This session is approved for ONE hour of MCLE self-study.
