The State of Michigan Long Term Care Ombudsman program has just completed a boooklet entiled, "Medicaid and Long Term Care."
There are three sections: first, 28 pages of questions and answers explaining eligibility and the application process.
Second, copies of forms an applicant would complete or receive from DHS.
(These forms can be used as is.)
Third, there are lists of resources an applicant might need - county Department of Human Services offices, AAA's, waiver agents, single points of entry - and mention that lawyers familiar with the Medicaid program are a resource.
The impetus for the booklet was questions residents and family members raise to local ombudsman. This booklet can be a resource to the ombudsman, to residents, to family, and to lawyers unfamiliar with this intricate
(read: byzantine) program.
To their credit, organizations such as MAPP, CBC and DCH have done explanatory publications in the past, but the ever-changing Medicaid program makes keeping up darn near impossible.
