On July 13, 2006, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved $358.5 million for LSC in its FY 2007 budget. The Committee's recommendation marks a $19.6 million increase over the number approved by the House of Representatives in June and a $31.9 million increase over LSC's FY 2006 appropriation. A bi-partisan amendment sponsored by Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and cosponsored by Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) is to thank for the budget increase; the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science had recommended $327 million for LSC, or roughly the same as LSC's FY 2006 appropriation. Next, the bill will go to the full Senate, where a vote will likely take place after the August recess. Any differences between the House and Senate bills will be worked out in a House-Senate conference committee.
