(Los Angeles, CA. May 10, 2007) - Two organizations that exemplify leadership and commitment to the community, values that the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice stands for today, have been honored at the organization's annual fundraising dinner held today in downtown Los Angeles.
The LACLJ presented its Corporation of the Year Award to Latham & Watkins LLP for the law firm's generous sponsorship of an LACLJ attorney's two-year fellowship to provide free legal services to teen clients with special needs. The LACLJ presented the Justice Award to Project NATEEN of Children's Hospital Los Angeles Division of Adolescent Medicine. Under the leadership of Ms. Carla Hill, Project NATEEN guides teen parents on the path toward independence through counseling, educational opportunities, and career development.
The LACLJ has provided free legal services to low-income families in Los Angeles since 1973. Currently, it has a staff of 14, including six attorneys who provide court representation and legal advice free of charge to victims of domestic violence, teen parents, elderly and disabled persons throughout Los Angeles County. The LACLJ also provides assistance to families who, because of language barriers, immigration status or income, are unable to receive assistance elsewhere.
"Latham & Watkins is proud to support the vital work of the LA Center for Law and Justice. In cooperation with the Center, our Fellow created an innovative advocacy program for low-income pregnant and parenting teens, and our work with the Center further demonstrates our firm's commitment to the local community," said Amos Hartston, Pro Bono Counsel at Latham & Watkins, a global law firm founded in Los Angeles in 1934.

"Project NATEEN is extremely grateful to be in partnership with the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice. This relationship has allowed us to expand the services we are able to offer to our teen population and their families. Without the services of the LACLJ many of our teens would have very limited to no options for good, accurate legal advice for the issues that effect them the most," said Carla Hill, Program Manager at Project NATEEN of Children's Hospital Los Angeles Division of Adolescent Medicine.
Joining the LACLJ in presenting the awards was Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and Thomas Saenz, Counsel to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The event was hosted by Kim Baldonado of NBC4 News and was generously supported by ACC Capital Holdings.
