Supreme Court rejects request for review in CalWORKs cost of living case
Friday, June 15, 2007
- Organization: LAAC
On June 13, 2007, the California Supreme Court rejected a request for review in the case of Guillen v. Schwarzenegger, S151347. LAAC had submitted an amicus letter arguing in support of Western Center of Law & Poverty's request for review.
As issue was whether the state should have implemented cost of living increases for CalWORKs families as tied to tax relief for California motorists. This decision, denying the request for review, will leave in place the appellate decision in favor of the state and overturning the Superior Court's granting of the writ of mandate, denying 1.1 million low-income Californians much-needed cost of living adjustments.
