Yesterday the governor signed the elder financial abuse bill, SB 611, into law. This was a bill written by attorney Steven Riess who is a member of CANHR's financial elder abuse panel. CANHR sponsored the bill and got Senator Steinberg to carry it. Beginning January 1, 2008 a plaintiff in an EADACPA financial abuse case can ask a judge to attach the assets of the defendant. The judge can allow this where the case has sufficient merit and the plaintiff posts a bond. The language of the law can be seen here: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/07-08/bill/sen/sb_0601-0650/sb_611_bill_20070704_enrolled.html
