Assembly Passes Budget Plan
The Assembly passed a 2007-08 spending plan and a number of bills to implement the budget in the early morning of July 20. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the plan today, but the outcome is uncertain. The Assembly plan would reduce revenues and widen the state's budget gap by as much as $500 million per year or more when fully implemented by providing tax breaks to large corporations, movie and TV production companies, and others.
