LAAC AGREES TO POSTPONE PUBLIC COMMENT ON IOLTA RULES CHANGES

AT TRUST FUND PROGRAM'S REQUEST

BASED ON TRUST FUND PROGRAM'S REQUEST TO BOARD OF GOVERNORS FOR A 45-DAY EXTENSION

Stephanie Choy has requested that LAAC postpone submitting its full public comment on the proposed changes to the IOLTA rules to allow for more time for both the Trust Fund Program and LAAC to assess the wide range of public comment offered at the five meetings over the last month. The Trust Fund Program has submitted a recommendation to the State Bar Board of Governors that the public comment period be extended another 45 days, with comments now due on August 14th.

LAAC has agreed to honor Stephanie's request. LAAC will submit a short letter on Monday June 30th stating that LAAC anticipates substantial public comment on the proposed changes given the discourse at the public comment meetings over the last month and that LAAC will file a full public comment on behalf of its member programs, but that given the pending request/recommendation for a 45-day extension, which LAAC fully supports, LAAC will defer its public comment and submit it at the later date.

We will start circulating LAAC's proposed comment on behalf of programs next week. If you have any questions about this, please email Julia Wilson, LAAC Director, at jwilson@pic.org.
