Bills Affecting California Immigrants Nearing Final Stage
Anti-immigrant Measures Defeated; Other Important Bills Reach Governor's Desk
Over the last several months, the California Legislature has voted on hundreds of bills that affect Californians, including immigrants and their families. Some bills have remained or died in committee, usually for fiscal reasons; a few have made their way to Governor Schwarzenegger's desk, only to stall because of the Governor's pledge not to sign a single bill until deadlocked legislators resolve the state's budget crisis. Meanwhile, this year legislators introduced a record number of anti-immigrant bills. CIPC worked alongside our allies and other advocates to successfully defeat each of these measures.
For an update on selected bill that have been approved by the legislature and are expencted to reach the Governor's desk soon, click here. This update can also be found on our website at www.caimmigrant.org.
CIPC will provide an additional legislative report in early October, after the Governor's deadline to sign or veto legislation passes.
