AM Alert: What to cut?
In a new California Field Poll today, voters overwhelmingly say they prefer spending cuts over more tax increases as a way to balance the state budget. No surprise there. But out of 12 areas of state spending, a majority of poll respondents favor cuts in only two: prisons and parks.
Meanwhile, a new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California shows voters almost evenly split on whether they would be willing to pay higher taxes to maintain current school funding. And while 61 percent say more state funding will lead to better schools, 85 percent say more efficient use of existing funds is the key.
