Governor Proposes Deep Cuts to Health Coverage Programs

Friday, May 22, 2009

  • Organization: The California Budget Project

Two new CBP fact sheets analyze Governor Schwarzenegger's proposals to make deep cuts to publicly supported health coverage programs. The first fact sheet finds that more than 1.2 million Californians could lose access to health coverage under the Governor's proposed cuts to the Medi-Cal and Healthy Families programs. In addition, these cuts would cause California to lose an estimated $1.3 billion in federal matching funds in 2009-10. The second fact sheet examines the county-level impact of the Governor's proposal to drop approximately 225,000 children from the Healthy Families Program.
