State Budget Conference Cte Meets Again Friday AM

Friday, May 22, 2009

  • Organization: The Sacramento Bee

The Budget Conference Committee meets again this morning.

Cash flow is on the agenda.

Alert readers will recall that the Legislative Analyst's Office said last week that the state might need to borrow up to $23 billion to pay its day-to-day bills in the first few months of the coming fiscal year.

Alert readers will also recall that U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told California on Thursday it would take an act of Congress to have the federal government guarantee such short-term emergency loans.

Expected to appear before the committee: Jason Dickerson of the Legislative Analyst's Office, Ana Matosantos of the Department of Finance, state Treasurer Bill Lockyer and state Controller John Chiang.

Expected to be out of town: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who'll be at the West Los Angeles National Guard Armory this morning to announce the launch of the Network of Care for Veterans Web site.
