New State Bar Dues Bill Providing up to $2 Million a Year to Legal Services Signed into Law

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Last night, the Governor signed AB 2764 into law.

The State Bar dues bill provided a new and much-needed stream of emergency funding for legal services by allowing a $10 opt-out amount in our dues for the next three years. Those funds, estimated to be approximately $1.75 million a year, will go towards supporting the amazing work that you do.

This bill passed with bipartisan support and with the support of 44 LAAC member programs who wrote letters to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Assembly Judiciary Committee, and to the Governor.

We thank our member programs for support, and we thank our amazing pro bono advocates at Manatt, Phelps, & Phillips, LLP. What an exciting move for California!
