SAN FRANCISCO (November 29, 2010) – The Legal Aid Association of California, a statewide nonprofit working to support legal services organizations in meeting the legal needs of low-income Californians, has selected Bank of Sacramento and Umpqua Bank as the 2010 Leadership Bank honorees for their outstanding commitment to the delivery of free legal assistance to Californians in need.
Both Bank of Sacramento and Umpqua Bank are among the State Bar of California’s recognized Leadership Banks for their commitment to legal services. These banks are among a group of over 70 California banks that offer a higher yield on interest-bearing accounts that support legal services organizations. These banks and legal services have similar missions: to support economic development, revitalization of low-income neighborhoods, affordable housing, health and social services, and family stability among goals.
“Legal nonprofits provide essential help to over 270,000 Californians in crisis each year,” said LAAC Executive Director, Julia R. Wilson. “These vital services would not be possible without the leadership and commitment of banks to this effort. We are honored to recognize the contributions of Bank of Sacramento and Umpqua Bank to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of Californians.”
The 2010 LAAC Leadership Bank Awards will be presented on December 8 at a luncheon as part of LAAC’s Traveling Training at the Holiday Inn, Capital Plaza in Sacramento.
