'Foster children living in San Mateo County have a new advocate! The Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County recently has introduced its newest program, the Foster Care Project, which provides the county’s foster children with free legal help in obtaining appropriate education and mental health services.

Areas of assistance include special education, school discipline, access to mental health services through Medi-Cal, and enforcement of foster children’s rights related to school placement, enrollment, transfers, and credits. In addition to providing advice and direct representation to foster children, the Foster Care Project will train foster children, foster parents, service providers, and other agencies that work with foster children on foster children’s rights in these areas.

Please refer foster children who are experiencing problems with school and/or access to mental health services to Legal Aid for an appointment: (650) 558-0915.
